BIOGRAPHY

John is a creative, authentic, appropriately irreverent and passionate innovator with deep-domain knowledge and experience in clinical sciences, medical device product development, regulatory and quality systems development and user-centric innovation processes.

As the Chief Scientist of Informatics Research at GEHC, John worked with internal and external teams to solve clinical problems using informatics, data science and artificial intelligence methods. He led the solution architecture and definition of learning platforms and applications co-created with GE’s clinical partners at several world-renowned academic health systems – including Mass General Brigham (MGB) Healthcare in Boston, UCSF, Boston Children’s, and Oxford University. His work with UK institutions led to the federally funded National Consortium of Intelligent Imaging (NCIMI) based in Oxford, England. He also was co-PI on a multi-year, multimillion pound integrated diagnostics program aimed at better management of lung cancer screening programs using AI and integrated biomarkers, digital pathology and diagnostic (DART) across the UK National Health Service.

His innovation work with Boston Children’s Hospital has been commercialized in the GEHC Universal Viewer product-line (Imaging Reference Study Library). His leadership with the MGB partnership has resulted in numerous publications, patent applications and a granted US Patent (to date). His stewardship of an AI-enabled, diagnostic pathway solution led to a Breakthrough Designation by the US FDA due to its potential to positively affect patient outcomes. This was the first breakthrough designation granted to GE Healthcare.

Prior to joining at GE, he held various development, research and innovation roles and medical device and pharmaceutical organizations. Many of his innovations are on the market around the world: nuclear medicine and radiological agent delivery, diagnostic and interventional cardiology devices and patient monitoring systems. He has extensive experience in the front-end innovation process for medical solutions, product management, regulatory processes and applied scientific management.

He is principal inventor or co-inventor on 38 US Patents and ~15 pending applications and has authored many scientific articles, abstracts and spoken at numerous events in and outside the healthcare industry.
