Rakesh Mehta RN, BSN, MBA, MS (IS) has leveraged his bed-side clinical experience to various areas of healthcare information technology (HIT), digital health, healthcare strategy & strategic transformation over the last 15+ years. He currently leads the virtual health-related care redesign initiative at the largest healthcare system in Houston as the Director of Virtual Health. Over the years, he has played the role of a technology evangelist, and an advocate for using digital health to improve the patient condition, access to care, value-based care and to improve quadruple aim of healthcare. He has led efforts related to digital innovation and virtual health at a nationally renowned pediatric hospital. He has also led large teams while implementing Health Information Systems at several healthcare systems across the country.
His professional experience spans the areas of strategy development, operations, new business development, software development and innovation in settings ranging from start-ups to multinational organizations – organizations such as GlaxoSmithKline, Accenture, Siemens, Cerner, Texas Children’s Hospital, Carle/Health Alliance, and Memorial Hermann Health System. He has had the privilege of being the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI on several research projects developing applications in the areas of NLP, Clinical Decision Support Systems and Electronic Health Records. He holds graduate level degrees in Marketing, Finance and Information Systems.
